Hugh greatly admired the work of the Salvation Army and its practical approach to helping those in need. In recognition of this the trustees have supported refugee and homelessness programs run by the Ministry in the Laverton area as well as the Just Brass program which provides children from disadvantaged schools the opportunity to learn a brass musical instrument with the hope that this will build confidence and an increased interest in learning generally.
